The management of bio-waste should be based on a transparent, comprehensive approach, including the life cycle. The European Commission’ circular economy package introduces restrictive waste recycling requirements, including material recovery as the preferred for biodegradable waste. In connection with the introduction of selective collection of municipal bio-waste fractions, problems related to direct management of sewage sludge - technologies for processing biodegradable waste into organic and mineral fertilizers create the possibility of recovery of valuable organic matter. The OrCal® fertilizer has been classified as an organic-mineral fertilizer for use on arable land and for land reclamation. It consists of calcium compounds (Ca) and organic compounds. 1 ton of OrCal® contains about 47 kg of nitrogen (N), about 25 kg of phosphorus (P2O5), 13,8 kg of potassium (K2O) and at least 250 kg of calcium (CaO). The effect of OrCal® fertilizer on plants can be divided into two types: 1. Direct influence, that is supply of nutrients (mineral and organic), root stimulation (especially root hair) for growth and development. 2. Intermediate influence, i.e. soil pH regulation, soil enrichment with an organic substance, stimulation of beneficial soil microorganisms, improvement of physical and chemical parameters of soil and others. All these effects, in total, contribute to the creation of better conditions for plants growth, development and crops.
